Th. Noon-9pm "On Aug. 29, 1970 over 30,000 Chicanos marched down the heart of t Los Angeles protesting the Vietnam War, the high casualty rate of Chicano soldiers and racist conditions in the barrios. The participants included youth and families of a mainly working class community with delegations from throughout the Southwest including San Jose. It is important to commemorate the Chicano Moratorium because it is part of our history of resistance that is not always taught in history classes. Today it is important to continue the fight against the wars abroad and to protest the military recruitment targeting Chicanos and especially immigrant youth. In San Jose, we have decided to commemorate the Chicana/o Moratorium by hosting a series of events throughout the San Jose State campus on September 26th 2013. As part of the Moratorium we will Aztec Dancers & Conjunto Libertad set us up for a great day. Around 2:30pm we will have a film screening to educate people about the history and significance of the original Chicana/o moratorium along with an exhibition about the history of Chicana/o movements in San Jose. In the evening, we will have a commemoration for Corky Gonzales and a community panel-discussion on what can we do to resist wars abroad while creating change that affects all citizens of San Jose. We invite everyone to come and help us commemorate this great day in Chicana/o History!
