Thank You! James Rhodes 16 Sep 2014 — In just under a week, more than 50,000 of you have signed my petition which calls on the Education Secretary, Nicky Morgan, to deliver on the Government’s promise. Like me, you believe that every primary school child in England should have the opportunity to learn an instrument. I’ve been overwhelmed by your messages of support on Twitter, Facebook and change.org. And reading your reasons for signing the petition has only reinforced why we need action: I teach music and have witnessed the lack of funding, the deterioration of instruments and the reduction in music teaching time that is occurring in many schools. We all know how vital arts education is. Lets not throw it all away!” Martin, Derbyshire. But right now, thousands of children in primary schools across England are still missing out on a proper music education. We need the Government to tackle the complex problems which mean too many children don’t get the opportunity to learn an instrument, like the need to provide primary school teachers with proper music training. By signing my petition, you’re helping me get that message across. And I want to say a massive thanks to each and every one of you who added your name to this campaign, so I’ve recorded this quick message youtu.be/1vdP_OmBUP4 Watch it; then please share my petition with your friends – so our voice is even louder! And don’t miss the second and final episode of my show, Don’t Stop The Music, on Channel 4, tonight at 9pm, to see what happens next. And you can join the conversation on Twitter #DontStopTheMusic We’re only just getting started!
