Thank you Barbara Anne Langridge for sharing this post...so many familiar names, so many lives lost, I couldnt have put it better myself: This post evoked many childhood memories not least of which was listening to the evening news waiting for the latest news of those KIA. Those names still etched in the hearts of mothers who lost thier sons. Wives lost husbands and those who grew up not knowing thier fathers. At least three generations of turmoil which has moulded the psyche of those left behind. Most of whom in foreign lands and still dream of home where the grass waves like a golden sea in late august wind and the sound tractors and voices in the distance hail in another day. Where life was both gentle and tumultuous but whatever the circumstance all were collectively joined by common cause. Reading the list of farmers killed from 2000 onwards I can hardly believe it was 14 years ago. And how the list has slowly grown. And how for those who were not killed but suffered often brutal and tragic circumstances and slowly walk on picking up thier grief and placing it into neatly packed suitcases in pursuit of a new road. The great kaross of our african existance that folds around our hearts, the lost tribes of an african childhood. We remember.
