Thank you all for your love and prayers yesterday and today for my brother Jeff. It was overwhelming and makes it even more difficult to give this update because we were all so hopeful. The lumbar puncture (spinal tap) was NOT a success. My brother does have a lot of fluid on the brain but it was discovered that it is not causing pressure or affecting his cognitive abilities. He did not show measurable improvement, so they will not be doing the shunt. Our shock and disappointment is indescribable. We were hoping this would be the key to Jeff overcoming hurdles in rehab and in his recovery. The lumbar puncture seems to have disturbed the condition of his brain and has brought back Jeffs neuro-storms. Not all TBI patients get them but unfortunately Jeff has from the very beginning, although they had subsided over the last two months. The storms increase his heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature. He has had a 103 fever all day, that they cannot seem to bring down and his heart rate is very high. They are trying to manage both with medication. It is heartbreaking and shocking to see my brother in the condition that he is in today. So different than we saw him yesterday when he looked so healthy, , relaxed, was alert and following commands and moving his arms and legs with such ease. It feels like we have gone back on months of progress just over night. My brother continues to fight like no one I have ever seen. Please pray with us that Jeff will continue to fight through this latest set back. HOPE 💚🙏
