Thank you city council for trying to make sure that we dont spend too much money on the As deal. Thank you for realizing that we have little to no leverage in keeping any sports team, but still pressing the issue nonetheless. Now, since we have the As for the next 10 years, lets do the right thing. GET RID OF YOUR FREE LUXURY BOXES at the As, Raiders, and Warriors Games. I did some checking: luxury boxes for baseball cost about $1200-$1800 per game on a low end. Luxury boxes for Basketball games cost $1500-2500 per game Luxury Boxes for Football games cost $1500-5000 per game SO: Baseball/Basketball/Football games per year equals 130 regular season games. Lets say for the sake of argument that the other 200 events that happen at the Coliseum complex are still yours for the stealing...er, official use. Lets not even count the preseason or postseason games, because the teams may actually appreciate hosting you for free instead of charging fans. And lets not assume the prices will increase for 10 years. Lets not talk about free parking. We are just talking about the sports that our elected officials are trying to protect. Lets just do the average, from the low end, for these sports events and see what we come up with, shall we? 130 games at 5 years =650 games 89 games at 5 years (if we are going to lose the Warriors, lets take those games out for the last 5 years) = 445 games. Yes, I know they may leave in 4, but who knows? 650+445=1,095 games over the next 10 years Average suite price= $1400 per game low end; $3100 on the moderate end. Revenue lost to Oakland City Officials attending games: LOW END $1,533,000 MODERATE END $3,394,500 And if you really want to blow your mind, double both numbers, because Alameda County Elected officials get a suite of their own too.....
