Thank you doesnt quite cover the moments that have unfolded in Gracies life because of the team of medical personnel it took to care for her. Seeing her perform in the school talent show, seeing her fall in love for the first time, watching her father escort her across the football field as a Freshman Maid on the homecoming court; Hearing her say I love you Mama Bear and feeling her arms around me when she hugs me.....seeing the tender moments and love towards her little sister & little brother-all possible because of poisons. My children are flesh of my flesh & bone of my bone. So to the extensive medical personnel it takes to care for a child with cancer- its ok.....I cant speak for all cancer moms. But I get it. I signed the forms necessary for you to poison my Gracie because what would we NOT do to keep them with us?! Doctors, Nurses, Researchers, Pharmacists, Surgeons and Medical Personnel alike- press on!! Continue to fight with us. I understand you can become desensitized - so can we as cancer parents...when another mom is concerned that her child has a low grade temperature from a virus- my daughter had a fever of 107 during therapy. More than likely that child will be just fine. Meanwhile Im sticking my finger under my daughters nose to feel for warmth and Im watching her chest rise and fall and placing my hand on her heart to confirm that its beating. And I am doing all of this lying in the hospital bed with her because I want to be close to her and she needs and wants me RIGHT next to her. Her heart is beating slowly and her breathing is labored, but she is fighting! So, consult with the team, write the orders for treatment, deliver the medications, monitor the labs, dish out that tragic news of the set backs during treatment, give us the survival statistics, DO NOT sugar coat it! I wanted to keep my daughter - so I fought along side of her. Be the Doctor...its ok! Marissa Ipock Fitzpatrick
