Thank you for allowing me to join your group. I grew up in Jubilee Crescent and attended St Pauls School. I had a a paper round and covered the poets corner area, finishing at coxes lock now called Alexanda Rabey. I remember the new silo being built in 1961. Addlestone was split in two halves when I was a child. The shops either side of the staion were Wells shoe shop, Chambers Butchers, Burges the bakes (they delivered) Leonards drapers, Maxis junk shop Garners Bakers, Jarmans sweetshop, Sydney Pyle, Forbes the chemists. Drake and Mounts (Grocers) corner at the end of Corrie Road, Berry and Dickers cycles on the other corner Barclays Bank, Dangerfields ( Paint wallpaper), Dray and Osbourne ( Furniture). Opposite Crouch Oak, Next door ro the Bus Garage Where Tescos is was the Co-op that sold shoes, drapery, mensware. Next soor was the food shop and behind it speading across to Vicory Park road the Bakery. There was an annual sportsday all of the children got a box of cakes and a drink. The are afrom The zebra crossing where woolwoths was was large houses and scbland one of the houses was Andersons the dentist. Where the Library is now was woodland that ran right through to Crockford Park Road. Most of it was part of the estate surrounding Frenchay Hose. They kept horses there as well that we used to feed over the gate. Back to the other side of the road we had the entrance to Princes Marys village homes. Next was the Cinema It was only making adverts there when I was a child we had to go to Weybridge for the cinema. BM latex then woods and another house. Crouch oak lane the Magnet Pub the House of Ray Hairdressers, A coal merchants a green grocers an ironmongers and a garage that sold petrol. Cant remember what was there before CRown Coffee house and resturant that was on the corner opposite the Dukes Head, Bank and Parrs. Parrrs was the best old fasioned grocers the smell of hams and fresh cheeses. You took in you orger and a boy on a bike delivered it through your unlocked back door.
