Thank you for sharing those tidbits of important Chacmooligan history! I might add a little more information about chamool-like statues from Central America that are NOT Mesoamerican. These chacmool-like statues, like this one excavated by Ricardo Vázquez Leiva at the Las Mercedes site in 2010, have been known from the Caribbean lowlands of Costa Rica since the late 19th century. In 1901, C. V. Hartman published the results of his scientific excavations in this region which includes chacmool-like statues from Las Mercedes and Williamsburg. At the time, Hartman did not call them chacmool statues, but later archaeologists, like Doris Stone did. However, the relationship between these statues and the Mesoamerican chamool statues has never been studied. There is a research project that I think would be very fitting of a Calgary archaeology student!
