Thank you for your service and thank you for your leadership in our veteran’s community. As you are well aware, despite national efforts to eliminate homelessness among our Veterans, we have more than 100,000 homeless veterans in our country. In Jacksonville we are fortunate to have Saving Our Homeless Veterans and Comrades (SOHV&C), providing a great service to these veterans. SOHV&C is a Not For Profit corporation committed to ease the transition from homelessness into permanent housing, providing counseling, job training, job placement, to assist our wounded warriors reintegrate into meaningful lives. I want to personally update you on our progress at Saving Our Homeless Veterans and Comrades (SOHV&C). Since opening our new facility at Canterbury Gardens on the West side of Jacksonville, we have provided housing for over 22 veterans, both male and female, and, of course, their children, plus we have over 30 veterans in job training. Here is a note from Dr. Kevin Church, founder and CEO of SOHV&C: Within two months of our signing the lease, and hosting our Grand Opening here at Canterbury Gardens Apartments (May 1st - July 1st), we have housed and have approximately 22+ Veterans (both male and female), and some with one or more children in our SOHV&C Housing Program. That’s approximately three veterans and their family members removed from the streets/week!!! All Praises be to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for using, choosing, and privileging us to be forerunners in this awesome ministry, and eventually becoming a Nationwide Project/Model!!! Our vocational programs providing training to our veterans are in full swing and expanding: 1. HBI our Facility and Grounds Maintenance Partners: Averages about 9-15 veterans (male and female) within their twelve-week open enrollment program (HBI.ORG) which boasts an 82+% job placement rate. 2. We have 3 to 5 veterans currently involved in our newly formed partnership with the Maritime Merchant Marine Training Program. Our next class begins on July 12th. 3. We currently have an enrollment of twelve veterans (nine males and three females) in our Six Week Hope Hospitality, Training, & Research Institute, Matriculating on July 15th at the Montgomery Correctional Center, Jacksonville Florida: Behind the Prison Razor Wire. 4. Our remaining three (Hope Solar Energy Management Institute, Hope Veterans and Community Aquaponic Greenhouse Training Institute, and our Hope Life Skills Development Institute (a partnership with WestCare– westcare–Tradershill Farms, and The Green Building Organization), are expected to be in place no later than December 2013, or within the first quarter of 2014. We have had several ongoing great & productive meetings with the aforementioned organizations!!! I would like to take this moment to once again tell you all how proud I am of each of you, and what an awesome job each of you are doing for the Lord and our Veterans/Comrades!!! I know our Lord is Very Pleased As Well!!! Keep On Praying, God is Moving, and Satan is Busy!!!
