Thank you to Annette and Phil from Australia for sending us these comments and photos after walking the Great Glen Way back in August. We love the photo of the two of you either side of the sculpture on the new High Route. Just a note to thank you for making our walk such a memorable experience. Having all the planning done in such a professional way was invaluable. Initially I had intended to do all the organisation for this walk with the idea that this would allow us flexibility. However realising that August is a peak time of the year with accommodation being at a premium I decided to go with a tour company and chose Absolute Escapes because they solely organised UK tours and the positive reviews on their website. After my initial enquiry I knew I had made the right choice. Their follow up email and itinerary were received within a few days of my enquiry and the booking process was very easy. A huge weight was lifted from me as I no longer needed to concern myself with finding accommodation and luggage transfers and I knew that if any problems occurred we would have someone to help us out. For me the cost was worth every pound. The maps and detailed notes sent to us in Australia were very detailed and informative. Apart from the last day, when hurricane Bertha hit and we walked in rain and gale force winds we had good walking weather with just the occasional light shower. We were especially delighted to be able to walk the new high route between Invermoriston and Drumnadochit. It was spectacular, a real highlight of the walk. The views over Loch Ness and back to Invermoriston were inspirational. As this was our first attempt at a long distance walk we chose the easy to moderate rated Great Glen Way. The scenery was varied, relaxing, spectacular, the forests provided shelter and provided an insight into the importance of the forestry industry for Scotland. The canal sections were interesting with the array of boats, large barges to kayaks and all sizes in between. On the final day when the remnants of hurricane Bertha hit we used garbage bags to protect our backpacks, weather proof pants and jackets and apart from damp shoes (we had to negotiate a lot of water on the track) arrived in Inverness dry and elated with our achievement of walking across Scotland.
