Thanks everyone, for asking about Hallie Paige. Gwen is with her at Detroit Receiving Hospital and I have not yet seen her. We talked today and she sounded in less pain. Here’s what I know… She still hasn’t had surgery to actually repair the bones, as they have so far been more worried about something called “compartment syndrome” – her leg was so extremely swollen that the trauma surgeon was more worried about the swelling cutting off blood and nerve pathway into her leg. She was in extreme pain from that, and the surgeon did a “faciotomy” procedure in which he made four large slices in her leg to let it swell beyond the confines of her skin, like cutting into a hot grilled bratwurst. Her leg is screwed together from the outside with a metal frame thing, and hopefully she’ll have the surgery to actually nail her bones back together in a few days. She will be off work 2 to 3 months. She’ll have horrendous scars. She might skate again. She has AFLAC. That’s as much as I know.
