Thanks for adding me, and this is pretty bad for a first post. Definitely makes me a bad guy, but unfortunately this is the only photo I have. Taken today in central Maine, mixed forest, outer ring of a peat bog on what I believe was a rotting Eastern White pine log. Like I said, only photo because it was in a protected city forest and not allowed to pick. Cap was velvety, maybe wet, appeared to bruise brown immediately on touching, no distinct smell (again, near a peat bog,everything smells woodsy). Never seen this particular beast before, although it distantly reminds me of chicken, but its not like any Ive seen or picked previously (the more I look at the pic though). Also on a conifer (never seen that in Maine), and not really one of the lookalikes such as P. cinnabarinus or H. nidulans either. I was with my three-year old, so it was only a quick look, but Im stumped.
