Thanks for sharing this Prof Raj. As I read few thoughts came into my mind and let me put them down while sharing the post in my timeline as well. C Devidasan Life throws full of surprises; some good, some bad, some painful, some enlightening and some that induce self realization. Many a time these help us to change the perceptions set-in inside us due to sweeping generalizations we have made our mind to believe as a result of some incidents that may have influenced us. The heart rendering help received in a totally unfamiliar land far away from home under compelling circumstances from a set of people Monani Basu till then perhaps believed would, not only not help, but could create difficulties to her and her family, changed the perception she had been carrying in her mind and rightfully so. This incident, I am sure, has brought into her huge relief and a feeling of self realization about the sweeping generalization we all many a time erroneously tend to make in our lives without considering the wholesome picture. Her post and the trailing comments of different persons from all across undoubtedly spread goodness of harmony and a feeling of brotherhood and encourage cooperation amongst the divergent spectrum of our society. Man by nature is good because the fabric with which he is made of is serene and spotless that does not have even an iota of hatred and malafide intent on it and yet, it is also true that he many a time indulges in unexplainable and unimaginable cruelty on his own brethren beyond reasonable understanding of human beings, we are. The reason? Again the perception he may have absorbed from the erroneous understanding of things and incidents. I have tried to learn different scriptures and I have so far not been able to see any one of them….yes any one of them propagating cruelty and violence. In fact Quran describes Allah as “the most merciful of all” and therefore there is no place for violence in the faith in the first place. The problem lies in interpretation of our Scriptures by the vested interests and they are there in all the religions and we must be collectively cautious about them. The solution: Right education and right mentoring which would induce right understanding. Affectionately
