Thanks for sharing this Suzie. Theres much discussion through this post about Queanbeyan. And I cant help but take the opportunity to say, I think its naive to believe that violence is somehow confined here or even that its necessarily more prevalent. Itd be great if we could say, lets all go out in Canberra or Goulburn or Young because you wont encounter anyone there thats violent or likely to commit unprovoked acts of crime towards you. But that isnt the reality. Unfortunately we also seem to be trapped in a criminal justice system that doesnt appear to have the resources to execute much justice. Where individuals with chronic health and psychosocial disorder, often overlaid by substance dependance, move through a cyclic process of challenges and circumstance which ultimately culminate in them reoffending. And inflicting more of the same ongoing damage on the community around them, with little engagement in meaningful rehabilitation. Those of you close to us know our own experiences and the impact assault can have. The recovery time and the effect on those around you, on your family, your work, lets face it - your life. Wishing this fellow, whoever he is, all the best with his journey to recovery.
