Thanks for the add Mary, now for a little history. My grandfather was born in 1889 in I believe, Rapides Parish, Louisiana, married my grandmother in 1912 in Catahoula Parish, but he told me a story once, of a trip he made. He was working for a doctor/planter that was from Meadville, who owned a plantation somewhere around Rodney, who wanted to farm rice. He sent Grandpa and an older black man to Point Coupee, Louisiana, just north of Baton Rouge, where they were to take delivery of 22 mules, and then transport them north to Rodney. I believe grandpa told me it took them about 3 weeks to make the trip back north, then one other story he relayed to me. Same doctor,, in Meadville, who wanted a car. At this time there were no roads except wagon trails from Natchez to Meadville, sent Grandpa with $800.00 to Natchez. No one east of Natchez had ever driven let along owned an automobile and he wanted to be the first. Well coming back to Meadville, following a heavy rain, on one of those long steep slopes of red clay, he lost control, and totaled the car, this was before insurance, after grandpa got back to Meadville, treated for his contusions said Doctor, gave him anothe $800.00 and asked him to finish the job as he still didnt have a car. True Story. I had many conversations with my grandpa later in his life before he died, Sometimes Ill relay some others.
