Thanks for your service but I have a few suggestions if you dont mind Okay, indulge me for a moment if you will as I try and address a growing phenomenon that has tested all aspects of my Christian heart. Im referring to feedback that Ive been receiving from citizens of our great county who are devout followers of the Police Scanner (County name left out) These are the folks who have invested good money into a top-of-the-line police scanner so they would not miss out on any of the action. Folks who spend the great majority of their time sat next to said investment waiting for a tone to drop or a hot call to go out over the air. These are the same folks who beat responding units to the scene to snap a quick picture of the carnage of a bad wreck or devastating loss of a house fire. Ordinary citizens for whom the line between first responder and casual observer have become crossed. Now look, I realize that everyone loves a little excitement. Everyone loves to know whats going on at their neighbors house or why the blue lights are down the road. That would certainly explain why the scanner page has almost 11,000 likes. Thats a lot of likes for a county of just under 50,000 people. Ive said it before, but I truly believe that this Counties public safety page has more avid viewers than most any other county in all of Georgia. Theres not much I can do about that and I dont actually have any problem with people listening in. The problem arises when listeners push past the proverbial police tape in an attempt to be a part of the action. When they, without any credentials or training, offer unsolicited advice and critiques to those who have dedicated their lives to this profession. That brings us to the quote I posted at the top. That was sent to me by one of these dedicated viewers and was waiting for me in my inbox when I woke up this afternoon. This person went on to give me a few pointers that would help me do my job a little better. And while I appreciate the fact that their only concern is that I become a better dispatcher, I want to be clear that this shit dont fly! Now, I was kind enough to do the Christian thing and simply block this person without laying into them in my usual fashion. I didnt give them even so much as an Okay or a Thanks. No, I didnt dignify their message with a response, period! Nor will I dignify any future messages I receive. I want to be very clear that listening to your scanner does not now nor will it ever make you a police officer, an EMT, a paramedic, a firefighter, and it most certainly wont ever make you ME! Yeah, you heard me. You could never be me! You couldnt do my job on your best day...even with the required training. Now I try and be modest and not brag on myself much, but allow me to toot my damn horn for a minute. I got this! I hold down the fort at my job. I know what needs to be done and I make shit happen. I dont only get shit done, but I make sure its done well! Are we clear? I dont need your advice. I dont need your tips and tricks. What I need is for you to stay seated next to that scanner and let me continue to rock the airwaves and give you what it is that you so enjoy. Okay? That goes for anyone who even thinks about sending me a message or coming up to me in public with some bullshit. I strongly, and kindly, advise against that. Dont do it! Im tired of being nice. If you want to be more than a listener then go put in an application and see what happens. You dont know me and you certainly dont know what I do for 12 hours a night and I dont have any more patience for your unwanted help! Now, Im off to make shit happen. Yall hold it down.
