Thanks to Amber for getting this group started, for her generous advice, and for suggesting a top five! I enjoy the group mostly as a reader rather than contributor, in part because I travel quite a bit so most of my birds are not from Alabama. Most of these are not so uncommon, and were chosen more for an uncommon photographic opportunity). #1 King Vulture from the Guapiles region. Theyre about 50% bigger than their Black Vulture cousins and much warier. Amazing opportunity, courtesy of Cope (more on that below). #2 Grey-necked Wood Rail. (also at Copes) #3 Red Crossbills (male on left; female on right); Cabin Lake, Central Oregon. #4 Red-bearded Bee Eater. Panti Forest, Malaysia. #5 Prairie Warbler from Cave Mountain (thanks, Amber!) (made a new post instead of commenting on Ambers; otherwise would not have been able to post multiple images)
