Thanks to Ammon Ripple for calling attention to this. The United States is edging increasingly closer to Third World status for many reasons, not the least of which is the growing commercialization and commodification of safe or clean water and the increasing monopolization of formerly government or public water and sewage providers. Access to clean or safe drinking water is a basic human right by global charters. We need to stand up for the poorest of the poor in this nation as well as around the world. Water may be a commodity, but it is basic to life. For that reason alone, its in the best interest of all of us that pricing of and access to safe water should be regulated by government.
