Thanks to Kathak Queen Padmashree Sitara Devi and her father Sukhdev Maharaj for giving Kathak its rightful dignity and restoring it as the leading classical dance form of India. Even today, ill-informed people associate Kathak with Tawaayafs (commercial dancers of old time) whereas in its true form Kathak is an expressive story-telling routine combined with dance, usually in praise of God.
