Thanks to Lindsay Polmear who wrote this in response to another post on our wall - a great perspective: A lot of people believe if it is knocked down, no harm done - it isnt even old, we live in NZ but these people fail to look at the bigger picture. If we have this attitude toward everything with the slightest age in NZ, we will never have a historic influence. We will never have a hope of getting tourists due to our historic structures. I am so thankful that the countless number of cynical people here were not present in ancient Rome, France and Britain to tell them to knock down their cathedrals, colosseums, amphitheatres and castles - because they were not yet old. These architectural beauties were studied in awe whatever the era as signs of these cities magnificence. These were, are, and have been respected, and I hope this can be the case for our old structures 100s of years from now, structures that we fought for.
