Thanks to a list in a comment on another thread here, I am using it as an outline in the process of writing down all of my beliefs about my personal religion/spirituality. I have no interest in arguing them, but I would appreciate input that will help me add to them and/or state them more accurately. It might be helpful if you put yourself in my shoes and try to think outside of the box of your own beliefs. Please humor-me-seriously if you will. 😇 Some beliefs I hold as a Deist freethinker, by Lyman Grover, 8/7/14. 1. Belief that an ineffable first cause exists that has nothing to do with the tenets of any organized religion. 2. Belief that the only observable evidence of gods word (which originally meant works) is the universe rather than any human speculations found in theologies. 3. Belief that I used reason to arrive at the point where I chose to take a metaphysical leap-of-faith to believe that an ineffable first cause exists, as opposed to choosing to believe it does not (Deism, not Atheism). 4. Belief that religious ideas, beyond my metaphysical belief that a deity exists, should reconcile with and not contradict science. 5. Belief that the word god is shorthand for any deity and is not necessarily the god of theologies and churches. 6. Belief in the freedom to understand my religion/spirituality (for lack of better words) on my own. 7. Belief that my moral guidance, ethics, and conscience come from culture rather than scripture. 8. Belief that my religious beliefs are to the best of my ability not formed from tradition or authority. 9. Belief that I am a rational, religious/spiritual person who lives in accordance with my beliefs. 10. Belief that religion and government (church and state) are better when separate.
