Thanks to a most generous friend, Jill and I enjoyed a performance of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this evening at the CenterPoint Legacy Theater tonight. Heres some post-show commentary for what its worth: Management: Great theater. Comfortable seats and a good layout. Staff was friendly and the place was clean. Audio: Please know when to turn the mike down. When the lead female sings a note that rattles the fillings in my teeth and holds it for three solid minutes, its okay to cut it back just a tad BEFORE my head explodes. Lighting and effects: Really decent for a non-major-production. Your use of lighting to direct attention to one part of the state while resetting the furnishings and props really worked well. Kudos. Cast members: Thanks for not pouring on buckets of crappy falsetto in attempt to try and seem more professional than you are. You were loud and proud without sounding like you were trying too darn hard. Props/stage: Good transitions and efficient movement in scene changes. I will say that the major visual theme of your set was distracting. Yes, the story takes place in the later 1800s but that doesnt justify steam-punking everything. Your excessive use of goggles, gears, and perforated iron beams really gave the set an incorrect industrial feel when really none of the scenes take place in a factory. Patrons: I cant thank you all enough for turning off your cell phones. It was delightful to go through a whole show without hearing a single ring.
