Thanks to all of you who responded to my earlier Post about the two young men Ive mentored for years, who were each sentenced to prison this week. I appreciate the encouragement, and reminders from Scripture. I dont want anyone to think Im quitting on these guys. I consider them family, and will always care about them, doing whatever I can to help. I wont stop working with others who are struggling or in trouble. Even though the majority of them dont Get It, the few that DO change their lives, through committing to follow Jesus, make it all worthwhile. Im used to the disappointment, and fully realize that when we are planting seeds, not every one blooms. Many others take years to grow...and some just never take root. Seeing this happen to these two is especially tough, because they did SO well for a good period of time, and I know their hearts. In our jail ministry, we often remind each other we arent required to be successful....just faithful! We show up, do what we are called to do, and trust God with the harvest results. Yet, its also ok to hurt for them, when they fail. Its ok to grieve, and to be disappointed in others. As long as we dont give up, and never lose our faith in Jesus, there is always hope for tomorrow. While reading your comments, it occurred to me just how encouraging your words would be to them. Im going to print these pages out, and get them to Nathan and Manny. I know them well enough to believe they will take your words to heart, and use your support to help them in the days to come. Thanks for keeping them in your prayers. I will do my best to keep them focused on Jeremiah 29:11.
