Thanks to all the Villisca and Grant emergency responders, Montgomery Co Sheriffs dept. and Jim Coffman for coming to our rescue on Saturday. Our dog Ookie went missing on Friday afternoon and never returned home. We searched until 11:30 pm with no sign. We knew he did not go far since he is over 12 years old and weak in his hind quarters. It was a really sleepless night and Win got up and searched for him again after the storm subsided on Saturday morning. I went to Red Oak to take shelter animals to an adoption event. Before I got the car loaded up Win called and said our dog Corkie had found him, but Ookie had fallen down a steep embankment into the creek bed and was covered in mud. By the time I got back from Red Oak and Jim Coffman came out, we could no longer find him. To say the least when Jim found him he was nearly covered and only part of his tail and nose was showing. Jim was able to dig him out, but I knew that we would need help getting him up the embankment, so I called the Montgomery Co non-emergency number and was surprised to have emergency responders from Villisca, Grant and the Montgomery Co Sheriffs dept. It only took them minutes to haul him up and carry him to the top of the hill. Many people will say that he was just a dog, but to Win and I, Ookie is part of our family. After a fast trip to Southern Hills Veterinary Services in Corning, an exam and bath, Ookie was able to return home. He was so happy and so were we to have laying in his favorite spot. I always tell our dogs no matter what, we will bring them home. We were distressed to think that may never happen for Ookie. Thanks guys - words will never express the appreciate Win and I have for all of you. Many of you know that I have a passion for helping animals and sometimes mine get left to last, nice to know that someone had my back for a change. Everyone at our house is getting extra hugs and attention.
