Thanks to all veterans. Its impossible to know what the world would be like if not for your sacrifices and fighting evil. I got a letter from my Senator, In the mail yesterday, Outlining the things hes done To fix problems at the V.A. I thank you, sir, for your service. Your hard work I appreciate. But for some, its a little too little, For some, its a little too late He was a kid when he answered the call To the 114th infantry, And marched across the whole of France, And half of Germany. Carrying shrapnel in his head Till long past the war, But when he needed his countrys help, No one cared anymore. When he, and countless like him, Stood to save the world from doom, No one told him then, “Sorry, theres just no room.” He knew what he was in for, No need to lie to him then, No reams of paper to fill out And fill out again, and again. When he was old and dying, And asked for help promised long ago, They stonewalled and turned a deaf ear, Too chicken to just say,”No”. Well, the old man is dead now, Hes finally unclenched his fist, Please tell the next poor Vet in line, Theres an opening on the waiting list. -son of a forgotten hero
