Thanks to everyone who posted on my little rant about the Garth Brooks situation. To make one thing clear, What I was remarking on was that in the 1970s getting bands of any note to play Ireland was near impossible. As Christy Moore once put it so brilliantly...a 747 for Jackson Browne, they had a build a special runway just to get him down Also, if you remember we would have one major concert a year, that was Slane and maybe one or two in the national stadium. It would be the mid to late 80s before we would have regular tours coming to these shores. (and no I do not be believe the troubles were a factor). I agree with Joe Gilligans point that the GAA were renting Croke Park to the promoters. The mistake in my opinion was that it was presumed that the gigs would go ahead as there had never been any problem before. Something just has to be done so that this does not happen again. There is now a dangerous precedent and we could find ourselves cancelling other events as a result of this.
