Thanks to one of my cousins for `posting an article, I was reminded about a huge pet-peeve of mine. Im tweaking the article thats why Im not sharing the link. I feel the need to clear up any misconceptions about my culture. Its called, Things You Should Never Say To A Latina... 1. Are you Spanish? ugh... seriously? You have to be born in the country of Spain to be considered Span-ish people! Its really annoying that people refer to us as Spanish, when that is just the language we speak. 2. You dont look Latina or (Ecuadorian in my case)— youre light skinned! In other words Im not 4 ft tall, tan, jet black hair & slanted eyes. Another annoying stereotype. Ecuadorians/Latins can be fair skinned, blonde/blue eyed, while others are tan w/ brwn eyes or a mix of both. Ecuadorians have mixes in the American Indian & European cultures for centuries. And Im sure this applies to other Latin cultures as well. If you Google a pic of the recent beautiful Miss Ecuador it help prove my point. 3. Where are you from? No, no, no, like where are you from, originally? Well originally Im from Long Island NY, how about you? LOL. Assuming that my exotic look obviously means Im foreign is annoying. If youre smart youre reading this like, duh!!. All Latinos (with the exceptions of Brazilians, who speak Portuguese) speak Spanish in some way, shape or form. Different countries use different dialects but its still the Spanish language. 4. OMG, I loooooveeee Spanish food!! I hope you mean some kick ass Paella, because I hate to break it to you, but mofongo, tacos and maduros are NOT Spanish food. 5. I love Taco Bell and Chipotle! Me too. Whats your point? 6. Will you call me papi? No, because you are not my dad. 7. Ooohhh speak to me in Spanish!! Umm, uh, NO. 8. Can you cook? Because all Latinas can cook, right? Yes, just another one of our great qualities. 9. I bet you come from a really big family. Umm, I guess??? 10. Wait, you dont have kids?! God forbid you meet a young Latina without a hubby and kids. I havent had a problem with this one LOL
