Thanks to the stinking internet, all horrible news stories that were used as illustrations to teach me lessons (like I cant let you stay in the car, it is hot… there was a father.. There was one kid who ran with scissors… …and the radio fell into the tub..) now have have real people with names instead of the late 70s oil/sketch type cartoons my mind tended to create in my early childhood. Such was adequate for me to take each lesson to heart, there was no need to give them a name and a face. They served effectively when they were as enigmatic as The Man with the Yellow Hat. Do children these days ask, Oh? What was his name? Where was he from? When did this happen? Will I have to have a tablet handy to show a child the grisly details of each incident before they will cease their willful behavior and say shucks… I suppose this werent such a good idea. as they slowly lay down their sharp pointy sticks? Suppose this is the case, and a particularly creative child begins to engage in an entirely new dangerous activity with no history of harm to share… with no material to use in reasoning with the tike, do we go ahead and grab the camera and call the papers so that the misfortune is recorded for the benefit of other parents, teachers and authority figures who need a name and a face? Whats next? I need to see a youtube video of the incident for your claim that this activity is dangerous to have any verisimilitude.
