Thanksgiving for the last decade has been a pretty dreadful day - TopicsExpress

Thanksgiving for the last decade has been a pretty dreadful day for me. Whether I was considering the fact that I was away from my mom, dad, brother and dog, or waiting tables hoping to at least eat something, or most recently, managing an army of angry servers, hosts, bartenders, and line cooks, Thanksgiving was normally a pretty dreadful day. Last year Thanksgiving was only pleasant because I was able to stop at Sir Khiki and Jezs house for late night left overs, and it completely made my day worth it... because theyre chosen family. Today is a different day. Today is a day I will spend with chosen family, the people I once jokingly called The Family in the North. On this Thursday, considered special by many, and hated by many as well, I find myself conflicted, and guilty. Unable to revel in getting 5 days in a row off, because I know so many wonderful servers and bar tenders who Id gladly give of my time and work their shift for them so they could spend the day with their families. Considering my past, and also my future, today I will eat and drink, and spend time with those closest to me in New Jersey, I will do so not having forgotten the family that I have in Atlanta, and beyond. I am thankful today for the family that has made the man who I am, empowers me to be the man I want to be, and has created the best vision of myself possible yet. I am thankful for the friends and supporters, far and wide, for giving me the respect to champion the causes and efforts that I may. Most of all, though, I am thankful for the power of creation, for it is not alone that great works are done, but through the conviction and the strength of our family, our culture, that we thrive and grow. Never before have I been so proud to be a gay Leatherman, thankfully surrounded by the best hearts and minds, gifted by the strengths and wisdom of many. Together, we remember our past, and together, we create an environment for our future, one that safeguards our culture and keeps us thriving onward. Today, my friends and family, share with others your strength and spirit. Share your stories, your compassion, and love. Today, consider not only what you are thankful for, but what you are capable of, and that you may give of that opportunity to others as we grow stronger, together. With love and respect, Yours in Leather, Tank American Leatherboy 2013 Mr. Atlanta Eagle 2013 Panther L/L Mamas All-American Pup
