Agriculture is the No. 1 economic industry in Maryland, compiling $2.3 billion in gross receipts annually and creating about 46,000 direct and indirect jobs. No surprise to Eastern Shore farmers, poultry makes up the largest section of farming in Maryland. It’s responsible for about 24,000 direct and ­indirect jobs.
