That cold front sure surged through much later than anticipated but has brought a surge of cold and dry Westerly winds as expected through the region. At this time of year cold fronts dump snow and rain down on Tas, Vic and the NSW Snowies and all thats left as a result is dry air which is what surges over us. The result for the Illawarra and surrounds: Clear skies, gusty winds and cool temps. Its extremely dry with dewpoints anywhere from 1c to -1c (for comparison a "humid" summer day has a dewpoint of around 17c - 20c for us) and winds gusting anywhere from 35km/h - 56km/h on the Observations for our region but be aware gusts can be up to 40% stronger than measured. Tassie, Vic and our NSW Snowies have all had a dump of snow along with winds around 100km/h being recorded, along with coastal areas in Vic and Tas getting battered by strong winds. Mt Buller in Vic recorded a gust of 133km/h out of this system. There is no longer any expectation of winds to be damaging out of this system and they will remain gusty at times and around this speed until tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon. - Stephen
