That doesnt sound like marriage as defined in Islam. There are examples of when the prophet peace be upon him raced one of his wives in the dessert. He is known to have done much of his domestic chores himself. As for living with in laws, that is a practice common within Muslims from the Indian subcontinent. Where financially possible, a wife should be housed in her own house, living with brother in laws is not ideal. Carrying out domestic chores for in laws is not from Islam. The duty to look after parents lies with their children. If a daughter in law looks after them because they are elderly, that is to her credit. Im sorry to say that the unrealistic expectations placed on daughter in laws is what is leading to marital breakdown on a large scale. Culture needs to be separated from the religion I took this from someones comment in her friends FB walls
