That season is coming up again. The season where people cant - TopicsExpress

That season is coming up again. The season where people cant afford to feed their horses and fellow horse owners/lovers are asked to chip in for hay/feed or come get them or they are going to the feedlot or put down because the owner cant afford to feed or keep them. We are already on a careful budget with our own horses to make sure they get what they need to thrive and stay healthy, but out of the goodness of our hearts or our love for the equine species, we respond faithfully. That said, how many of us have horses that: Eat before we do Get vitamins when we dont Get vet and health care and we dont Get better foot/health care than we do Have personal trainers Get continuing education Live in luxury, have their houses cleaned, their meals catered, and regular spa, chiro, massage, and bodywork visits? While we come home to a messy house, unmade meals, tangled hair, sore muscles and and if lucky, a shower before hitting the bed? All this to say, our equines are not just a hobby, they are our responsibility, our commitment, and they depend on us for their lives. Things happen. Prepare for them. Make arrangements, have a fallback plan, responsibly relocate or rehome BEFORE there are no more groceries in the pantry, your animal is lame, your friend is dying from lack of proper care and attention. And thank you to all out there who answer the call and help, rescue, rehome, relocate, and generally pitch in and try to educate and retrain those who take this responsibility so lightly. Tis the Season, and I hope those that fall through the cracks find a soft landing. Amen.
