That takes me back - a glance at pages past 20 years ago...from the May 26, 1993 issue of the Broadview Express: On Saturday, Len Bender’s two-storey, 160-foot long dairy barn caught on fire. It was completely destroyed within an hour. All livestock was rescued from the building and no one was injured. A 55-year-old Sakimay woman died after being hit by a truck while walking from Grenfell to the reserve on May 18th. The driver of the pickup truck was an 18-year-old Grenfell High School student. The woman was not conscious at the scene, and died within an hour after arriving at the hospital. Centenial Lodge seniors have been taking oil painting lessons and last week, their framed works were on display at the Broadview Library. 10 years ago...from the May 27, 2003 issue of the Broadview Express: A house was destroyed in a fire on the Ochapowace First Nation on Tuesday, May 20. Two people suffered from smoke inhalation, but otherwise, there were no injuries. Gene’s Water Care in Broadview held a grand re-opening on Friday, May 23rd. Owner Gene Ottenbreit moved his business into a new location on 8th Avenue. On Monday, the provincial government announced that it provided the community of Whitewood with $70,000 for two local projects that will benefit local residents. These projects include a special needs van and the development of a new playground at Whitewood School. 5 years ago...from the May 27, 2008 issue of the Broadview Express: The Town of Broadview wants the Qu’Appelle Health Region to address some important health issues affecting the region, including the doctor shortage in the area. Martha Birkett, of Cochrane Alta., is riding 3,500 km on horseback from Ottawa to Calgary to raise awareness and money for the Children’s Wish Foundation. A 21-year-old man was charged Wednesday on three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, and driving while prohibited, following a head-on collision at Cowessess First Nation.
