Thats stunning. To shape such a thing in a few minutes from material at over 900 C and achieve exact anatomical proportions and balance is an ability that is beyond my ken. This piece illustrates how the artist approaches the world through shape and proportion, poise and balance. In contrast, my access to the world comes largely through logic and numbers - my sense of aesthetics is likely rather plebian in the eyes of the cognoscenti . Sculptors, painters, and musicians gain access via something that is wholly mysterious to me. I am not unmoved by things of beauty - bonsai, mountain scapes, and boys choirs singing classical works are but a few of the things that rouse a response in me. Most attempts Ive made to produce an actual, physical example of my inner muse, however, are largely amateurish and flawed when viewed objectively. But I suppose I have my own karma to follow and my personal contribution to make within the constraints of my milieu, and I live in hope that maybe, just maybe, my legacy will be positive on balance. And Im delighted that human talent is so diverse. Economists call it division of labour, and it is at the heart of our species creation of wealth and wellbeing. Our capacity to cooperate and negotiate the combining of our various abilities gives us power beyond our individual efforts. Of course, we remain hobbled by our more primitive capacity for xenophobia, violence, and cruelty, but that has on balance diminished since the Enlightenment era.
