There is no mistake by Modi. It is correct that Congress was started in 1885 (with a few Britishers as its founders; notably AO Hume) and they have never appreciated or spoken gloriously about the 1857 War of Independence. They did not invoke it to inspire the freedom fighters pre-1947 and post that they never paid any real homage those brave fighters. In fact, until the 1990s English history textbooks have called it the The Sepoy Mutiny and not The First War of Independence.
