The 1960s had a very similar kind of communication we now have with this electronic social network. I think it was Ken Keseys wife, Norma, who coined the word network when she clearly observed how strong, vibrant and accurate was communication among parts of the largest, best educated population in history. Here we have no choice but to all speak to eachother from the center of our minds. This started in ernest in the 1950s.
