The 1980s were the times of dinner parties .Happy Days ..now memories of family BBQs and endless weekends of dinner parties with friends Every Saturday night we would take turns at each others houses to host a dinner party. And of course at the end of the night these words would always follow ... You wash, Ill dry... Those words were often tossed back and forth... after dinner, mostly. No one really wanted to wash, or dry.. for that matter. Just one of those things that needed doing.. Before the dishwasher. But even though it was a dreaded job.. The time spent together was priceless. Oh !the talks that started while leaning over the sudsy kitchen sink, washing the remnants of dinner off the plates...one by one. The kitchen full of laughter, the sound of towels snapping against flesh... and the squeals that followed....and shouts of, Stop it! Those were some good times... Usually the person who dried also rinsed...I dont know why. Its just the way it worked. No one would openly admit it....but I think we all enjoyed the togetherness while washing the dinner dishes. As the years rolled on we all seemed to go our separate ways . Happy days now memories sometimes, when everything is quiet... I can still hear their voices, more in my heart than in my ears And every once in awhile... I turn to my partner after dinner, and with a twinkle in my eye, I say You wash.....Ill dry.
