The 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games season is a three-stage test of fitness, comprised of the Open, Regionals, and the world championships, the CrossFit Games. Next Thursday, the last Open workout of 2014 is announced. On Friday, we’re celebrating our accomplishment by ending the Open in style. Announcing: Friday Night Lights at The Riv. The Open, the most inclusive competition in the world, has brought out athletes from around the world. It has taught us about our strengths, our weaknesses, our ability to give our best no matter what. Soon, we will know the top athletes and teams in each region from the Open who will move onto Regionals. Then, the best athletes and teams at Regionals will compete at the CrossFit Games, the world’s premier test to find the Fittest on Earth™. But Friday Night Lights is about US and OUR COMMUNITY. Imagine our crowd, and our cheers, when each person chalks up and grabs the bar. Bring family and friends so you can hear heckles from the sidelines. Have your very own cheerleaders when the times get tough and the clock seems to stop mid-movement. The celebration will be held on March 28th at 5pm, kicking off with a short announcement from coaches and a demonstration of the movement standards. The final Open workout is open to the public and all CrossFitter’s from around the state are encouraged and welcomed to participate. Please sign up online if you plan to participate, DROP INS ARE WELCOME! The goal of “Friday Night Lights” is to foster an inclusive competitive fitness atmosphere amongst our students, local affiliates and garage gym’ers where everyone is welcomed and encouraged to compete. We want you to come and bang with the best of them, bring your friends and family to support you and have fun! There will be 3 divisions for the “Friday Night Lights” 2013 CrossFit Games Season Opener, Prescribed (RX Gamers signed up and participating in the Open), Masters (Age groups include: 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60+) and a Scaled division to allow for maximum participation, energy and new competitors to the sport. Please note, that due to the expected attendance, judge preference will go to athletes participating in the Open, so scaled athletes may not have a judge. Experienced coaches and volunteers will judge the competition to count reps, adhere to movement standards, validate and submit scores to CrossFit Headquarters. If competing isn’t your thing, there are several ways for you to still be involved in this process. We are currently looking for judges and volunteers to help with the event. You can volunteer to help organize the heats on Friday night, volunteer to be a judge, and/or volunteer to help with equipment set-up (4pm-5pm.) If you are interested in participating as a judge or volunteer please send an email to info@cfriverfront. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for those companies interested in marketing their services or products to CrossFit competitors, affiliate members and fans. After the clock ticks down and the athletes catch their breath, its time to PARTY! We’ll be heading to Firestones for some much deserved food and drink.
