The 2014 election is proving to be a very polarized one. Although - TopicsExpress

The 2014 election is proving to be a very polarized one. Although the BJP is clearly the frontrunner, and Modi is clearly projected to be PM, which will no doubt happen, the first casualty of this polarized nature of the debate is truth. For example, I tried to find out ONE website that gives an objective appraisal of Modis achievements in Gujarat. I learned that it is IMPOSSIBLE to find an objective, unbiased site that praises what deserves to be praised and debunks lies objectively. Those who write about Modi either love him or dislike him - both intensely. So people who go out to praise Modi go around claiming pre-Modi successes as well to Modi (see this post I wrote on what the status of Muslims in Gujarat BEFORE Modi took over was: leftbrainwave/2013/03/comparison-of-gujarats-progress-with.html ... btw I was not able to get data to finish this work). So statements, for example, about per capita income in Gujarat compared to other states are often based on reports issued in 2006, but which use as their basis data from the 2001 census, which was BEFORE Modi took over. Modi himself has used such data in his speeches. The Sachar committee report, which actually shows that Muslims in Gujarat are better off than their peers (which Ive discussed in my article) is based largely on data from the 2001 census - and Modi supporters often use it to claim that Muslims in Gujarat are much better off than Muslims elsewhere. Unfortunately, the govt. has not released the religion data from the 2011 census. I filed an RTI application, but was told the data had not yet been compiled. Those who dislike Modi try to trash EVERYTHING he did, and have no spirit of generosity at all. They do not, for instance, even acknowledge the absolutely amazing job he did in reconstructing Bhuj after an earthquake, bringing it to a state much better than what it was in a record time of 3 years; acknowledge his success in irrigating a desert state; etc. They are out to ONLY identify inconsistencies and to paint Modi as a feku. The truth is somewhere in between, but I am finding it impossible to get to it because of the strong opinions on both sides.
