The 43 students killed were studying to become teachers. These students came from rural communities where farming and agriculture are a big part of their identity. This video footage shows them working the land at their school. Before they were murdered they had planted seeds in raised beds they had built. The seeds sprouted into beautiful orange cempazuchitl flowers which are used traditionally in the Dia de los Muertos celebration. According to investigators their charred ashes were placed in plastic bags and dumped in a ravine. These families will never see the bodies of their children but they can visit the school and see the fruits of their labor the flowers they planted. These students planted seeds as part of their training to become teachers and in their death planted the seeds of a movement for a just Mexico.
