The 4th Annual Powderhorn 24 Community Bicycle Ride will take place this year from August 15 and 16, 2014 in the greater Powderhorn Community. The event was started in 2010, hoping to unite and celebrate this vibrant and active community in South Minneapolis, as well as provide a fun and challenging event for cyclists of all levels. The ride begins at 7pm on Friday, August 15 and end at 7pm Saturday. Cyclists of all ages and abilities are welcome to challenge themselves by completing as many laps around the neighborhood and participating in as many as 20 different bonus activities throughout the 24 hours as they choose either as a soloist or on a team of up to six riders. Bonus activities include fun, engaging, and often educational activities sponsored with the cooperation of area businesses and advocacy groups. Some competitive riders push their personal limits, but most participants come for fun. Many riders hang out at Midtown Greenway field between 10th and 11th Avenues the whole twenty-four hours when theyre not riding. Many folks go home for a good nights sleep and participate according to their own comfort level. The riders and teams in each category of male solo, female solo, and teams of male, female and mixed gender who complete the most laps and bonus activities are acknowledged in a closing ceremony at the Start/Finish line on the Midtown Greenway at the Freewheel Midtown Bike Center, but volunteers and partners and those who bring spirit to the event are recognized as well. Additionally, this event is run entirely by volunteers. The Powderhorn 24 planning committee could use your help to help ensure everything runs smoothly for the over 400 expected participants. Volunteer registration begins July 15 at powderhorn24. And for those who live along the route, please consider cheering the riders on throughout the 24 hour event. As a representatives of the community, we want your input and involvement. To register, view the route, or learn more about the event, please visit powderhorn24.
