The 50 Fact Challenge! 1. When i was growing up, and finally got my own room, I had to sleep with my bed pushed against a wall. That way, I could sleep with my back up to the wall, with my knees drawn up and the covers up over my ears. This way the monsters and aliens couldnt get me. To this day, if I have the option of sleeping against the wall I do. Otherwise my husband gets to be the wall. 2. I know that monsters arent real, but I also know that if i am careful not to let my hands or feet hang over the side of the bed they wont have a chance to grab me. 3. I can sleep anywhere. 4. Car rides make me verrry sleepy. Doesnt matter if its 5 minutes or 5 hours. 5. I cant donate blood. Some stupid thing about living in Germany. 6. I used to have a parrot, a Maximillians Pionus named Oliver aka Ollie. He was the coolest bird ever. He loved car rides, and gave hugs and kisses. When you hugged him he would say awww, when you kissed him he would lean forward and smack your lip with his beak while making a loud smooch noise. He also loved hanging out with the dogs and preening them. 7. My first dog on my own was a pitbull named Phoenix. He was thrown from a car, and rescued by a grooming client of ours on his way to his grooming appointment. He was going to have him put to sleep as his ears were bleeding (freshly cropped with a pair of scissors), he had broken ribs, his harness was too small and imbedded in his skin, and he had mange. It was love at first sight. 8. I cant say no to an animal in need, much to my husbands dismay. 9. I prefer wide open spaces to cities. Give me the country any day. 10. I am crafty and love to create with my hands. Even though I have big hands, they are very clever. 11. I am a horse girl at heart. I grew up barrel racing and showing pleasure horses. I also drove draft horses, and broke one to ride... the amazing Reggie, who can kick any pleasure horses butt, and often does.... he and my little sister Jen won Cowboy Queen at the big show at MSU, defeating high priced stock horses in everything from western pleasure to English to barrel racing. Jens sister Kelsy also showed Reggie at the state 4H show two years. I live vicariously through them now. 12. I am in high demand when i go back up north for banding and braiding show horses, and also rolling draft horse manes. 13. I was an intern at a Girl Scout camp for a couple summers. I dont like kids at all, but had so much fun with my friend Jackie Piascik hiking through the woods, sleeping in bug infested tents under mosquito nets and stealing pouches of koolaid mix to eat right from the packet. Also engaged in some questionable activities (truck surfing?) with the camp director. 14. That same camp director loaned me her book the Hobbit, and then the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which began a love affair with the story that continues today. 15. I have a quote from LOTR tattooed on my foot- Not all those who wander are lost 16. I got my first stitches from the vet. ( I worked there). 17. One of my fondest memories is ditching a wedding reception to go cow tipping, and diving into ditches like ninjas when cars approached. We also discovered a few horses in the pasture we were attempting to tip cows in, so we decided to ride them, bareback with no bridles. Did I mention we were the bridal party? (Larken and Carissa) 18. We also had a habit of relocating lawn ornaments. No gnomes were safe. 19. I never went to grooming school. I apprenticed under a groomer that was just around the corner from my parents house (in a tiny little town in Michigan), who incidentally used to compete and was invited to be on the very first Groom Team, when it was by invitation. Some of you may remember her, her name is Francie French. 20. I used to listen to her stories about the people she competed with... Liz Paul, Teri Becker DiMarino, Melissa Verplank... and decided that maybe one day I could be good enough to be on Groom Team. 21. I made it to #6 on Groom Team the first year I was eligible, and never looked back. 22. Although I really didnt want to move to Florida, it has had its benefits... I met Liz Paul, and she gave me my first Bichon, Eve (Ardynas Shimmering Moon). Thus my love affair with bichons began. 23. I was supposed to give Liz a puppy back from her first litter. Sadly, Liz passed away while the puppies were tiny. I ended up keeping the one that was supposed to go back to her. We took the first three letters of Lizs full name (Elizabeth) in her honor, and thats how Eli got his name. He was my first home bred champion. 24. I never in a million years thought that grooming would take me places... but Ive been all over the world because of it! And for that I am thankful. 25. I met my husband online, sort of. He was in a band with my friends boyfriend Josh, who I was doing some small artwork for. While attempting to contact Josh through AOL Instant Messenger, I reached Jeff instead (logged in as Josh). And so it began. 26. Our first unofficial date happened after my friend totaled my car (with me and another girl in it) while we were visiting the band in Ohio. Jeff picked me up from the hotel to go visit the girls in the hospital from the other car that we hit. 27. Leaving the hospital, Jeff played me the song Flames by VAST. I loved it instantly, and I still love it now. We danced to it at our wedding, five years later. 28. I am still terrified of being in another car wreck, and I get really panicky and flinchy when I am not the one driving. 29. I really dislike hugs. I have a personal space issue. 30. I get my artistic side from my mom and my looks from my dad. I dont think my sister and I look anything alike but people say we do. She got the good hair, I got the awesome. 31. I have a sarcastic sense of humor. 32. I am so lucky to have friends that are ok with that. 33. Ive had the same best friend since high school , Larken Jonas, who ironically enough now lives in Florida too. and for that Im glad. 34. Ive made some of my very best friends through grooming Nicole LaLiberty Kallish, Cynthia Wheaton, Carmen Butera. 35. I used to work for a vet in Michigan, and loved it. Sometimes I feel like Ive missed my calling. I met my sister-from-another-mister there, Nicole Ray, who is one of the strongest people I know. 36. Im so proud of my career though, I can honestly say Ive accompished just about everything Ive wanted. I have won BIS at Intergroom not once, but three times, and won gold for the USA twice at the World Grooming Championship. 37. I HATE HATE HATE needles when they are aimed at me. 38. My favorite band is MUSE. 39. I hate spiders. I feel like someday there will be a police report out there with my name on it, that says cause of car accident: spider on window 40. I sometimes say a word so many times in my head that it begins to sound funny, and I question if its really even a word. 41. I make up little songs at work everyday to the tune of existing songs, and sing them to the dogs 42. I cant sing well. Sometimes when I am driving home from work , I sing so badly the dogs howl in sympathy 43. I wish I could play piano. Or cello. All I can play is clarinet. 44. I was actually in the county Honors band in highschool twice. I love music and i loved being in the band. 45. I am an introvert 46. My favorite number is 3. Or 9, which is 3 x 3 :) 47. I am a grammar and spelling freak. Nothing makes me crazier than misspelled words and incorrect punctuation. 48. I love thunderstorms, and prefer rain to sun in general 49. I love nothing more than a quiet rainy day, a blanket, and a good book. Oh, and my dogs scattered around me. 50. I wish I had a dragon. I did it! The 50 Fact Challenge.
