Coming from a family with generations of talented mariachi musicians, multiple Grammy Award-winner Beto Jimenez has sustained this tradition and has continued to blaze new trails in the mariachi world. Born in Mexico City, he attended the prestigious National School of Music where he studied theory, composition, and musical arranging. He became a member of and ultimately Musical Director of the Mariachi America de Jesus Rodriguez de Hijar in 1985 before moving to the United States in 2005. During those twenty years, he had the honor of accompanying internationally acclaimed artists such as LOLA BELTRAN, ROCIO DURCAL, AIDA CUEVAS, AMALIA MENDOZA, LUCHA VILLA, MIGUEL ACEVES MEJIA, VICENTE Y ALEJANDRO FERNANDEZ and LUIS MIGUEL, amongst others. He was also selected to participate in the first ten of the Encuentros Internacional del Mariachi y Charreria Festivals that take place every year in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. PBS even filmed a documentary about this festival in 2002...Mariachi: The Spirit of Mexico...in which he was a featured singer and violinist. Before permanently moving north-of-the-border, he had also served as Musical Director for several Mariachi Festivals and Conferences across the USA, including the cities of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Chula Vista, California; Wenatchee, Washington; and in Tucson, Arizona. Together with maestro Rodriguez de Hijar, he was the co-Musical Director of Mariachi de America where he had the honor of being the producer and musical arranger for three of their award-winning, best-selling CDs (Volumes 1, 2 and 3). In 2005, he was invited to Los Angeles, California to participate in and arrange The Mariachi Divas Asi Somos CD. In 2006, he moved to L.A. permanently to assume the position of Musical Director for The Divas. Since that time he has produced, arranged, and composed music for their last six CDs (including, in addition to Asi Somos): Mi Humilde Orfacion, the Grammy Award-winning Canciones de Amor (where he also won a Grammy for Producer of the CD), 10 Aniversario, Viva la Diva, Oye, and this years Grammy Award-winning CD A Mi Manera featuring the hit single (and video) Rosarito which he wrote in collaboration with Ismael Gallegos. It was only a matter of time before Betos love of performing led to his forming Mariachi Espectacular. This group of internationally famous artists were featured on their initial CD, Puro Tradicion in late 2012. Since most of them also produce, compose, and record with some of the most famous musicians and vocalists around the world, it is rare treat for them to be featured in Rosarito in October, where they will be joining the multiple Grammy award-winning Mariachi Divas, el mejor del mundo Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, and the Latin Grammy-nominated Trio Ellas. Coda: Betos protean skills recently led him to not only create the musical arrangements for the critically acclaimed Mariachi Gringo, which won the Guadalajara (MX) Festivals Award for Best Film, but to also serve as vocal and instrumental coach for the movies co-star Shawn Ashmore (who is currently co-starring with Kevin Bacon on the hit television drama The Following) and to act in the movie, as well.
