The Abbott Government has ripped millions from science and research in North Queensland in their budget of broken promises. The Australian Institute of Marine Sciences (AIMS) has had nearly $8 million ripped away, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority has had a $2.8 million cut and the Bureau of Meteorology will take a $10 million hit over four years. AIMS and James Cook University have played an instrumental role in confirming Townsvilles status as an important hub for marine science, Senator McLucas said.
