The Academy just snubbed MLKs incredible biopic movie on his birthday. Yeah, they just did that! lol Seriously though, Selma is an INCREDILE movie. The way it sheds light on the political chess match played by MLK and LBJ is masterfully navigated by Ava Duvernay. She should of made history as the first black female director ever nominated. If not HER for THIS great movie, then who?! Jesus. A few reasons it got snubbed in my opinion?! The flat out masterpiece 12 Years of Slave came out last year and the Academy couldnt ignore it. No way two great black biopic films shedding light on racism of the past, present and future was gonna dominate the Oscars two years in a row. No way! Second, apparently white audiences are uncomfortably with the fact that Selma is HONEST AND HISTORICALLY ACCURATE in its potrayal that LBJ was NOT A CIVIL RIGHTS CRUSADER AT ALL!!! He was a pragmatist forced in a corner to sign Civil Rights legislation by the genius of MLK. He voted against EVERY Civil Rights bill while in Congress cause he from Texas and they woulda burned his ass had he didnt. But in any event Selma is great. Go support it people! At least Common will when best song with insanely sick first verse in Glory.
