The Advising and Testing Center is beginning to plan the 2014 Summer Orientation program and an integral component of our program is the recruitment, selection, and training of our Peer Advisors. We are asking YOU to identify qualified candidates to serve as Orientation Peer Advisors for next summer’s program. Peer Advisors are the “heart” of our orientation program. They facilitate the orientation program by providing new students with an introduction to the campus and its resources, assisting with placement testing and registration, and acting as a representative of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Selection to become a Peer Advisor is an honor and a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth. Each year, the Advising and Testing Center selects a group of mature and dedicated undergraduate student leaders to assist with implementing university orientation programs. The following are a few characteristics/traits that we look for when hiring Peer Advisors: · Flexibility · Hard working/persistent · Internally motivated · Strong verbal skills · Open to criticism · High level of school spirit · Open minded, welcoming to diversity · Empathetic · Expressed desire to help others · Enthusiastic To be eligible for the position, a student must have attained at least 24 credits by the end of the spring 2014 semester and have a 2.75 overall grade point average. The students who are hired will receive a $2,200 stipend, free room and board throughout the duration of the program, and an opportunity to work in the Major and Career Exploration Center the following academic year.
