The African History Network Many Afro Latinos are nothing more - TopicsExpress

The African History Network Many Afro Latinos are nothing more than Spanish speaking Africans. When I was in Brooklyn, NY a couple of years ago I saw men who looked like African American men from Detroit or Chicago but they were speaking Spanish as their first language. From 1501-1700, Spain took 4 million Africans out of Africa into the Caribbean, Central America, Mexico and South America, especially Brazil. Black Latinos say there is little understanding of their mixed heritage, and little knowledge of the history of the importation of slaves by Spanish-speaking countries of which many, though not all, are descendants. Yet growing racial pride and a move to a more multiracial society with changing demographics are helping this group stake a claim to being both Black and Latino. #TheAHNShow FB: IG: Twitter: Michael Imhotep If you want to learn more about African History and African-American History to counteract the negative images we see of ourselves on the TEL-LIE-VISION (TV), please visit TheAfricanHistoryNetwork.
