The Age of Conviction... Scholars of Islam have always - TopicsExpress

The Age of Conviction... Scholars of Islam have always portrayed a positive attitude when it comes to inducing conclusions - every report, idea or opinion shall be critically assessed, scrutinised, discussed and compared to the text of Quran & Sunnah before being considered as a valid opinion. Important to note also, that not every edict should be taken into the sphere of respecting diverse opinions, some are just misled sayings that should be classified as astray. As much as I adore Sheikh al-Albani as a muhaddith of our time, I do not negate the fact that not all of his hadith-related opinions are accurate, what more non-hadith views. I have discussed online for a few times his methodology in understanding a few concepts of sciences of hadith (ulumul Hadith), such as ziyadatus thiqah (additon of a trusted person), tarqiyatul hadith bis syawahid quraniyah (elevation of a weak hadith by quranic evidences) and many others. Having said that, it does not degrade Sheikhs status as Muhaddith. Not even by an inch. My worry is when people start to critique not because for the love of truth, yet for compassion for hatred. A vivid example would be, those who kept deep hatred for Sheikh al-Albani, usually turn to Hassan as-Saqqafs criticisms towards him. The problems are: a) Most of them have never even study the criticisms b) They dont even know who is Hassan Saqqaf c) Little that they are informed he is a propogator of Ahbash (a deviant sect which has been warned by major scholars against it) d) He questioned the morality of companions such as Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan. Therefore, if you really hate Sheikh al-Albani, and wish to expose his negligence in Hadith, come to me and Ill give you examples. Do note however, he is one of the most influential contemporary Muhaddith in my eyes. InsyAllah tomorrow, his student, Sheikh Ali al-Halaby will be presenting something similar to the topic mentioned above. I urge my brothers who are in Jordan to attend the seminar. At the end of the day, my post is about comprehending what we are saying rather than just copying what has been written without making any effort to at least cross-check the information presented. It is important for preachers nowadays to realize that we are in the age of conviction. Phrases such as You wont understand this, You are not a sheikh so dont ask, Too many questions will misguide you, Reading books alone equates to reading with Syaitan and others just wont work anymore. The generation today needs concrete solid discussions. Rejecting their thoughts would only channel them to online references - which is a greater calamity (musibah). Welcome to the age of conviction my friend, where the community is well-informed and questions just keep getting tougher. WAllahu Alam
