The Alabama baseball team finished fall practice Friday night as the Crimson and Gray teams tied, 1-1. The Gray squad clinches the Crimson and Gray World Series after winning the first two games and finishes undefeated overall with the tie. Junior south paw Justin Kamplain got the start for the Crimson team, allowing one run off of four hits with three strikeouts in as many innings. Junior righty Spencer Turnbull got the starting nod for the Gray team, tossing three scoreless innings. Turnbull allowed one hit to Hunter Webb in the first and finished with six strikeouts against 10 batters. The two teams combined for 10 hits, with six for the Gray and four for the Crimson. Junior right fielder Ben Moore led the Crimson team with a solo home run, the only long ball of the Crimson and Gray World Series, and added a double. Sophomore third baseman Chance Vincent had an RBI double to account for the Gray team’s only run. Notable performances for the Gray team also came from sophomore second baseman Kyle Overstreet, who reached twice on a double and a walk, and from freshman left fielder Casey Hughston, who tripled and walked to join Overstreet and Moore as the only players to reach twice. In the top of the second inning, Hughston led off with a triple, and Vincent followed with a double to the left field corner to give the Gray team a 1-0 lead. Freshman right-hander Nick Eicholtz relieved Kamplain in the fourth, allowing a only walk to Overstreet in three scoreless, hitless innings. The first-year pitcher from Odessa, Fla., faced 10 batters and punched out five. Junior righty Jay Shaw also added a scoreless inning for the Crimson team. Sophomore right-hander Ray Castillo struck out two in three scoreless innings in relief for the Gray, allowing a double to Moore in the fifth and a single to Mikey White in the sixth. Freshman righty Jonathan Hess came in for Castillo in the seventh to try for the combined shutout. After striking out Georgie Salem to start the inning, Moore sent a no-doubt home run over the left field wall to tie the game at 1-1. Hess got Mathew Goodson to fly out and struck out Austen Smith to avoid further damage, but the game would go to a decisive extra inning. From there, Jon Keller of the Crimson and Colton Freeman of the Gray shut down the offense to end the game in a 1-1 tie.
